2012-13 CBBCL, Playoff Round, League Route, Second Leg
Box scores from the first leg are linked below (except Southern Miss/Wisconsin, sorry about that one). For recaps of the first legs, go here.
Kansas State vs. Saint Louis
First Leg: Kansas State 75, Saint Louis 63
Second Leg: Saint Louis 75, Kansas State 74
Aggregate: Kansas State 149, Saint Louis 138
Saint Louis got a result on the road, but not the one it needed, winning the game but falling by 11 on aggregate. The Wildcats controlled the game for most of the first half, leading by 5 in the game and 17 on aggregate at the break. That lead was stretched to 10 and Saint Louis could only chip away at it until the 3:02 mark. Saint Louis finished the game on a 22-6 run that got them the victory but was far too late to effect the series.
Man of the Match: Kwamain Mitchell had 21 to lead all scorers, plus four assists.
Florida State vs. Creighton
First Leg: Florida State 72, Creighton 62
Second Leg: Creighton 87, Florida State 78
Aggregate: Florida State 150, Creighton 149
A back-and-forth first half that ended with Florida State up two gave Creighton only 20 minutes to overcome a 12 point gap on aggregate. That time was cut to less than eight minutes as the Seminoles increased their lead to eight in the game with 13:45 left. A 19-6 run put the Bluejays up nine, just one point away from leveling the series and forcing overtime. Another 7-0 run got Creighton the critical 10 point lead, a lead they held as late as 30 seconds to go. But two late three pointers by Florida State was just enough as Creighton's 7-8 free throw shooting down the stretch was almost perfect, but still not enough.
Man of the Match: Creighton's Doug McDermott did everything he could, finishing with 26 points on 8-13 shooting and 14 rebounds.
Wisconsin vs. Southern Miss
First Leg: Wisconsin 61, Southern Miss 65
Second Leg: Southern Miss 48, Wisconsin 50
Aggregate: Wisconsin 111, Southern Miss 113
Southern Miss took a slim lead up to the Kohl Center, but extended it to 12 by leading the game by 8 at the half. It took Wisconsin until there was 9:46 remaining in the game to get the lead. Wisconsin had the necessary five point lead to the win the series with 4:35 remaining when a three from LaShay Page and a jumper from Torye Pelham tied the game, and the Badgers were never able to pull away from the Golden Eagles again, needing a three at the buzzer to win the game, which was not enough to win the series.
Man of the Match: LaShay Page lead all scorers with 13 on 5-10 shooting.
Cincinnati vs. Vanderbilt
First Leg: Cincinnati 68, Vanderbilt 74
Second Leg: Vanderbilt 70, Cincinnati 54
Aggregate: Cincinnati 122, Vanderbilt 144
Cincinnati had to feel good coming home with a manageable deficit. The Bearcats had control of the game early, jumping out to a 10 point lead midway through the first half. But Vanderbilt fought back for the rest of the half, scoring 8 points in the last 90 seconds to take a five point lead at the break. That seemed to knock the fight out of Cincinnati who never challenged the lead and trailed by as many as 18 in the second half.
Man of the Match: John Jenkins lead all scorers with 19 for the Commodores on 7-12 shooting, 4-7 from three.
Oregon vs. Gonzaga
First Leg: Oregon 80, Gonzaga 70
Second Leg: Gonzaga 68, Oregon 62
Aggregate: Oregon 142, Gonzaga 138
After a shock 10 point defeat in Spokane, Gonzaga was up against it coming to Eugene. Oregon did well to come back from 17 down with an 18-0 run to tie the game at the half, using up 20 precious minutes the Zags had to regain a foothold in the series. The Ducks used a workman like effort to see out the game in the second half, as Gonzaga never again reached the necessary 10 point lead to force overtime. Dooming the Bulldogs was a 2-15 night from beyond the arc.
Man of the Match: Devoe Joseph lead the Ducks and all scorers with 18, to go with nine rebounds and four assists.
